Class Description: Unidirectional flushing (UDF) is a method of water main cleaning that targets specific sections of water main through the sequential operation of valves and hydrants to generate flow velocities great enough to scour pipe walls. Advantages of UDF over conventional flushing include increased solids removal, decreased customer impact, and lower total volume of flushing water used. Water system hydraulic models can be used for UDF program development to prevent accidental customer isolation, predict necessary hydrant flushing durations and volumes, and identify potential low pressure areas or operating concerns. This course introduces UDF topics including distribution system hydraulics and flushing program development, organization, implementation.

Requirement’s for CEU certificate: must have an individual email and technology device to participate.
